Publishing dissertations
Dissertations
After passing the defence, doctoral candidates in the doctoral procedure must publish their dissertation. The University Library supports you in this process and takes on the tasks of archiving, dissemination and accessibility.
The University Library complies with the submission times and forms specified in the Faculties' doctoral regulations. Please read these carefully.
For doctoral candidates in the Faculties of Social and Cultural Sciences, this results in the following possible ways of publishing your dissertation:
Publication of your dissertation
The Viadrina publication server offers a cost-effective way to publish your dissertation online in open access, i.e. with fast, worldwide, free availability.
→ About the Publication server OPUS
The following materials must be submitted for electronic dissertations:
Upload your dissertation as a PDF/A document
Declaration of consent for digital publication
Authorisation for publication by the doctoral committee
5 printed copies of your dissertation
The physical copies to be submitted must be identical in content to the version submitted for examination and the document uploaded to the server. The library has no requirements regarding cover design, binding or printing (single-sided / double-sided) that go beyond the requirements of the doctoral regulations.
→ Tutorial for registering electronic documents (Please note the special instructions for dissertations here)
In the case of self-publishing, you must have the required number of physical copies of your dissertation produced yourself, e.g. in a copy shop, as well as an electronic version on CD-Rom.
The following materials must be submitted for self-published dissertations:
10 printed copies of your dissertation
PDF/A document on a CD-ROM labelled with name and title
Declaration of consent for digital publication*
Authorisation for publication by the doctoral committee
The copies to be submitted must be identical in content to the version submitted for examination and the electronic document on CD-ROM. The library has no requirements regarding the cover design, binding or printing (single-sided / double-sided) that go beyond the requirements of the doctoral regulations
* In the event that the demand for the document from other libraries exceeds the number of copies provided, the University Library reserves the right to contact the authors and request further copies or online publication.
It is also possible to publish your dissertation on your own initiative as a monograph by a commercial publisher or in a scientific journal.
The following materials must be submitted for publishing dissertations:
5 publisher's copies with copies of the title page of the originally submitted dissertation (to be submitted to the responsible doctoral committee)
(* This form of publication is currently only authorised by the Faculty of Social and Cultural Sciences.)
When publishing in microfiche format, similar to self-publishing in print form, you have a small number of physical copies of your dissertation produced in printed form as well as a larger number of microfiches (analogue images of the printed original reduced to film material).
For dissertations in microfiche format, the following materials must be submitted:
1 master copy (masterfiche)
3 printed copies
20 microfiche copies
Printing authorisation by the doctoral committee
The copies to be submitted must be identical in content to the version submitted for examination. The library has no requirements regarding cover design, binding or printing (single-sided / double-sided) that go beyond the requirements of the doctoral regulations.
