About the University Library
The University Library at the European University Viadrina
The University Library is dedicated to providing the European University community with comprehensive access to literature and information resources. It is funded through a combination of university budget allocations, third-party funding, and donations. In addition to serving the university, the library also functions as a general academic library for the city of Frankfurt (Oder) and the surrounding region.
Organised as a single-tier system in accordance with Section 77 of the Brandenburg Higher Education Act, the library operates as a central facility that holds, with few exceptions, the entire collection. Most materials are openly accessible and systematically arranged to support independent use.
The library's primary role is to support the university’s approximately 70 academic chairs, with services tailored to their specific needs.
Reflecting the university’s distinctive European profile, the library assumes additional responsibilities. In particular, it manages and oversees the European Documentation Centre, a designation awarded by the European Union to promote research and teaching with a European focus.
In collaboration with the University Library in Poznań, the University Library is also actively involved in the German-Polish Collegium Polonicum project in neighbouring Słubice. This partnership supports the ongoing development of the Collegium Polonicum Library and includes numerous cross-border initiatives and jointly organised events.
