Digital academic publishing presents a number of fundamental copyright challenges. The good news: for most issues, there are practical solutions.

In a joint workshop hosted by the University Library and the Center for Teaching and Learning at European University Viadrina Frankfurt (Oder), in cooperation with the Open Access Networking and Competence Center Brandenburg (VuK), several copyright-specific aspects of (digital) dissertation publishing and other academic publication formats were explained. The workshop took place on April 26, 2024, from 10 am to 2 pm at Viadrina.

The goal of the workshop was to familiarize doctoral candidates and early-career researchers with the most important legal challenges in writing and publishing dissertations and to provide tested solutions and best practices.

Key topics included:

gelb-blauer Punkt   citation rights (especially for image citations)
gelb-blauer Punkt   Creative Commons licenses
gelb-blauer Punkt   requirements and opportunities of Open Access publishing

The workshop was led by Fabian Rack. For further questions, please contact Dr. Ilona Czechowska (czechowska@europa-uni.de) or vuk@open-access-brandenburg.de.
