Loans

A (large) proportion of the items in the Reading Room can be borrowed. (The lending period is two weeks for students and one week for external users.) You will need a library card or university chip card if you wish to borrow books. You can borrow any of the media in the Reading Room which have a double-digit location number (10, 11, ...) unless they have a yellow or red sticker.

Items in the Textbook Collection (for students and academics at the university) and in the stacks (with the exception of particularly valuable literature) may also be borrowed.

Books held in the stacks can be obtained by ordering them through the online library catalogue (OPAC). Items in the Textbook Collection can be identified by the location number 18, those in the stacks by location numbers such as “aa1001” etc. The loan period for such items is generally four weeks and may be extended. Please ask for details at the Information Desks located on the ground floor and third floor.

The Issue Desk is open for borrowing items available for loan (from the university library and interlibrary loans) until 9 p.m., Monday to Friday, and until 12.45 p.m. on Saturdays. It is closed on Sundays.

It is not possible to borrow media with a red sticker, periodicals, newspapers, loose-leaf publications, encyclopaedias, bibliographies and similar items.

The yellow and red stickers on the books generally indicate the following and apply to students:

  • Borrowing is not permitted.
  • Weekend loans are possible (items can be borrowed between 6 p.m. on Fridays and 12.45 p.m. on Saturdays and must be returned by 10 a.m. on the following Monday)
  • no yellow or red sticker:  A loan period of two weeks applies.

The following loan periods for books also apply:
  • Textbook Collection:  4 weeks
  • Stacks:  4 weeks
